シンガポール弁理士の数
シンガポールに弁理士は何人くらいいるのと時々聞かれる。いつも100人とか150人とかいい加減なことを答えているのだが、ちゃんと数えてみた。全員の名前と所属等が公開されているのである。下記リンクのThe Register of Patent AgentsからPDFファイルがダウンロードできる。

ちなみにシンガポールの弁理士は登録料が150ドル（12000円）で更新料が年150ドル（12000円）となっている。現時点できちんと更新料を支払って更新している人を太字、支払ってない人を細字で、これまでシンガポール弁理士になったことがある人全員の名前が出ている。つまりこのリストに名前がないのにシンガポール弁理士を名乗る人の言うことは疑っておいた方が良い。
シンガポールの弁理士には2通りある。NはNew regimeでTはtransitional regime。
- N (rule 6) : individuals who have been doing patent agency work on or after 2 Jan 2002. They are entitled to be registered after meeting the requirements set out in rule 6.
- T (rule 23) : individuals who have been doing patent agency work in Singapore for a specified period, before 2 Jan 2002. They are entitled to be registered after meeting the requirements set out in rule 23.
シンガポールは1994年までイギリスで特許になったものの再登録制度を採用していて、特許制度の歴史が浅い。弁理士というものもほとんど必要なかった。弁理士試験が始まったのも2002年のようである。
そういうわけで、2002年以降に試験に受かった者（N）と2002年以前に代理人業務をしていた者（T）を弁理士としている。この昔から業界にいたから試験免除という制度は、ヨーロッパでGrandfather clauseと呼ばれるものと同じである。Transitionalと言いながら12年続いているが、いずれヨーロッパのように撤廃されるのだろう。
2014年7月2日現在、弁理士は178名。このうち更新手続きを済ませている者は121名（T：57名、N：64名）である。更新していない57名はもうシンガポールに住んでないとか、代理人業務をしていないとかそういう感じだろう。所属先別にリストにしてみた。
